No offense to Croatia as a whole, but that is a fuckton of ableism. I've met Deaf adults who weren't taught sign language as kids and even though they can speak relatively well now, they still ended up becoming part of the Deaf Community and learning sign language because that's the only language they'll really ever be able to communicate in.
And, in a wham of brilliance, when Croatian kindergartens started teaching Baby signs, they started teaching AMERICAN Sign Language.
American Sign Language is just cooler that way. :P But it really is frustratingly...separated, Deaf Communities. American Sign Language is only used here and in some parts of Canada--England has a completely different system even though we speak roughly the same language. And signs can vary a LOT by region and then you end up looking like a jackass.
