Dylan Marron Primer

Listen up, Dylan Marron is making people angry and fandom isn't paying attention to him, so I'm gonna help you out.

This is his person:

Since there isn't a lot about him out there, I think this article where he talks about how he got into acting is a really good starter.

TLDR: He's a proud Neo-Futurist, born in Venezuela, WTNV fanboy, only child, gay.

I guess a lot of us learned about him from Welcome to Night Vale so I'm gonna start there even though I that's chronologically incorrect.

Dylan is the voice of Carlos on WTNV. He is Cecil's scientist boyfriend - this is all about Carlos, spoilers ahoy. He got hired after the first Carlos quit because they didn't want a straight white guy playing a gay poc.

This is Carlos with Cecil, one OTP to rule them all <3

Warning - Dylan is a known fourth wall breaker.

Some time before or during the Night Vale gig (look, for someone who isn't a Doctor Who fan, I take a very Doctor Who approach to time) he starred in Whatever This Is - an online show (FREE!) about a group of friends and flatmates who are trying to make ends meet doing shit jobs. FEATURING: LGBT* people and romance, a straight guy who has no idea what's going on, hypocrisy of people who hire sex workers, asshole bosses.

I watched the whole show and really liked it btw. I'm not usually into indie stuff because they tend to fill up time with people sitting on buses and looking out the window a lot which is like... i know the budget is low but come the fuck on, but this show doesn't do that so give it a shot! WATCH ONLINE

And, I guess before all of this, he co-wrote and starred in a live show called Ridgefield Middle School Talent Nite which was hilarious, from what I can see on youtube :D From their facebook page: "Dylan Marron (Welcome to Nightvale, 2015 Drama Desk Nominee) and Jo Firestone (TCGS, WFMU) bring you Ridgefield Middle School Talent Nite, an entire, real-time middle school talent show performed by two grown adults.

He wrote some other shorter plays which you can see on his youtube channel that I'm not gonna link you to now because I wanna talk about something else first, so just have some videos of interesting plays he did - "Got Nothing In My Brain" which is... scary true and "A Sentiment Expressed in the Structure of Every TED Talk" which is also true but mostly hilarious :D

So, I promised you angry people, right?

Well, recently Dylan started doing some editing. Specifically, he edits out Every Single Word spoken by a person of color in movies. The last thing he did was Harry Potter, the whole movie series... and he got 6 minutes of poc speaking. Comments on his facebook are all about statistics of POC in Great Britain in 90's and it's amazing. Other movies feature numbers like: 6 seconds, 1 minute, 90 seconds, 40 seconds, 14 seconds, 19 seconds... you get the point. So you can see how this is making people pissy. It's glorious.
Frankly I can't wait for him to do Stonewall.

So this isn't a proper fandom Primer, sorry, but it's like, the first chapter in a primer or something. Mostly, I feel like he's not being noticed enough so here we go, fixing it.

1. Cult!AU - I have the next 4 days outlined but nope, not happening (1d ot5 crack)
2. BDSM LiLo/ot3 - i just... it would be great, but it would be SO LONG, I can't, just thinking about it is overwhelming. And all I have are these images and all the feelings but I don't have the words for it... too much too much no (1d)
3. Hockey!AU - I am SO INTO HOCKEY right now and I'd love to write Avengers as hockey players - have it all already planned out too - but i'm not even there right now. (Avengers)
4. fem!1988 - I was prompted female tazer/kaner and shockingly "female" is not a prompt so now I'm stuck on like... when you're about to play an rpg and you're on that first screen picking out the characters and you have it all sorted but just... the entire rest of the game is missing. (hockey rpf)
5. 1988/Sid College!AU - SO I HAD THIS IDEA about just Sid and Tazer sitting at a desk, calmly discussing strategy and Kaner looking at them wanting to be in that sandwich. Am I Kaner in this scenario? Maybe. Does it matter? No. Also he's way more fun then me so he takes them out and buys them ice-cream and they bang. It's a really well thought out story, leave me alone.
6. Deadpool/Hawkeye HS!AU - Basically this (second) idea, but with Hawkeye instead of Pete because I am just really not into spider-man and this works so much better for me. Also all of Barton's issues hahahaha *crying*
ETA: 7. OH THAT'S RIGHT, Randa just reminded me, Bollig/Harry - the fic that will piss off hockey fandom and confuse 1d fandom. I have a first part of it written tho. Yay me.

1. I wanna write about pro lgbt*, pro bdsm, occasionally crossdressing, always make-up-wearing punk band All Directions. With, y’know, ridiculous tattoos (basically as they are lol) and hair in all colors and painful piercings but then there’s Niall who just doesn’t want any of that and everyone is fine with it because they are all inclusive whatever. And Zayn sometimes goes by Zanya and ‘they’ pronouns Harry wants to bang them either way, and they all play some instrument and write angry music about being queer in the music industry (also just Pansy Division type songs) and people love them and corporations just can’t figure out why. And ot5.

2. So I have a bit of a hard time shipping canon Deadpool/Spidey because of reasons, but here’s what I’d go for.

HS AU where Peter is not a superhero, just a guy raised by his aunt, skateboarding around with a camera, making really good photos and Wade is a new kid in the school who has a shitload of scars, even on his face, only one living parent and a hell of an attitude because of people’s reactions to his scars.

I know we live in a Sid/Geno and PK/Price world, but have you considered.... PK/Sid?

Sid is ridiculously fond of PK, and isn't afraid to show it. PK doesn't even bother being coy about how much he loves Sid. Hasn't since day one really. (I will provide evidence, hush.)

Now, the media will tell you I'm making shit up because Sid is a good Canadian rule riding robot (lololol) and PK is the wild child who doesn't respect his seniors and doesn't play the game white, excuse me, right enough.

Everyone was super upset when he dared chirp Sid on ice, Don Cherry probably cried because black people are allowed to play hockey and I don't even know how Pierre lives with himself now that he let PK kiss him after he offended his favorite so harshly. Btw is you look at that link with the shots of PK chirping Sid, you can see exactly how many fucks Sid is giving. His field is barren.

Hockey playoffs aka pls don't unfollow me

Real life news! Most of you know I'm living in Germany now. I've been learning German since I got here and it's pretty good now, so everyone tells me. So I found an "internship"... it's an unpaid thing where I sit in a travel agency and learn more German, how to work in their software and just generally get some experience. Since I need to get a work permit for that, I started gathering papers and... idk, I worry :/ If I'll have all papers, if they'll be on time and most importantly, if it'll be approved because being a new country in EU, we have a lot of limitations. But we'll see.
I'm supposed to start June 1st. So if you see me crying because I failed, give me hugs and a ticket to Canada.

I kinda sorta decided I want to start a podcast where I talk about fannish things and life and music and... idk, like a blog but without writing. So I bought a cheap account (I mostly did it to see if I can, because I had bank issues because my bank is still in Croatia... ANYWAY) and it's all set to go and I even know what I want/ed to talk about and then I just didn't record it because I SUCK.
I'll try. Ugh.

Also, I'm sorry to everyone who follows me anywhere because everything is hockey and everything hurts. I'm following three teams that are still in the playoffs - Canadiens, Blackhawks and Penguins. - not in that order tbh. They are all doing ok... which means... sooner or later they'll meet. And I don't know which is worse, choosing (and failing to choose) who to root for (except Sid, always Sid) or the fact that all the games are set at 1 or 3am my time and I start the internship before the playoffs are over.
I haven't slept in a week.
I'm going to slay the Rangers if they don't stop aiming for Sid's head (I'm looking at you ginger Staal.)

Oh hey interesting bit of information I found out. Apparently red hair used to be (? I never heard it personally) connected to Jews (because there's a lot of them living in an area that has mostly dark haired people, not because they are overwhelmingly ginger) so technically ginger hate could be connected to antisemitism? I'm really curios about that.

I now have google play and buy things there because Germany is really annoying. And I just bought the book "Who cooked the last supper" by Rosalind Miles. It's the book you see quoted on Tumblr often, with a buuunch of stories about women throughout history. I started reading it and so far it's really interesting and easy to read, I recommend.

Sergey Larenkov is a ~~genius~~ artist who blends old, mostly ww2, photos with modern ones in the exact same place where the originals were taken. It's as close as I get to time travel. I tend to stare at them for hours.

This is my first primer ever and I'm absolutely brand new in hockey fandom (seriously, I still don't know half of the rules of the game). But I had a hard time figuring out the timeline of his life (which as we all know is very important) so I decided to make a handy list and then it grew. For fandom purposes I'm callingueg this a primer. :P
What that also means is that I'll probably add to this every now and then, and also this will be long. LONG.

I think competence is a major turnon and reading all the awards he picked up is kinda like reading porn for me, but there's so many of them that I'll just occasionally list the few fun ones and the rest you can read on wikipedia.
