100 "artworks" - 2 - Fred le Chevalier
May. 9th, 2012 10:44 pmI discovered this artist when my friend went to France and sent me photos of some of the beautiful things she saw there.
I'm gonna start by talking about this picture, but the whole story behind it is interesting too. So read on if you want. :)

The reason I love this picture is because every time I interact with people I feel like this is what I have - a sword in one hand and a flower in the other. And when talking to them, I can use either. It seems like the most logical thing, for people who aren't psychopaths, to just use/give the flower most of the time, right? But I don't. Often enough I use the sword instead. I say something vicious with intent to hurt. I stop later and ask myself why I did it, especially when I do it to people I love, but... I don't really have a reason. I just have this anger inside me and a sword in my hand and I lash out because I can.
Now to happier thoughts, I guess. Fred le Chevalier is the artist who made it. He's a street artist from Montmartre, the north of Paris, who has been working for about six years and has been doing illustrations for about two. He makes these beautiful illustrations and pastes them all over the city. Supposedly most of them don't stay too long because walls of Paris are cleaned regularly but he has a blog here, where he posts photos of his art. (Click on Messages plus anciens to go forward.)
Here's also an interesting interview with him that can introduce you to some other French street artists.
Often his art has accompanying text that I find interesting. Like this:

I translate it roughly as "Thus I become the scarecrow of my own fears."
(Correct me if I'm wrong.)
