I'm being oppressed!

Have you ever been attacked by a word?

Like, one day after living your life for say, 30 years without it, in a random conversation someone mentions A Word. You've rarely or never heard it before and you're pretty sure you never will again, no one cares. But then, a few hours later as you're waiting for the bus a person passes by with a bag full of band names and the brightest, reddest name has that exact The Word. Two days later while you're picking out fruits in your local store, you look up in the mirror and there it is, behind you, The Word. Waiting, lurking. What does it want!? No one knows :(

I get those a few times a year. This time The Word is Pansy. I was watching some show a few weeks ago and that was a favorite insult of whoever was in it. Then last week I was looking into queercore and I saw Pansy Division, didn't like the sound much so I decided not to get it. Yesterday, while browsing some stranger's Tumbrl, I stumbled upon a Pansy Division song again only I couldn't remember who they are exactly until I gave it a proper listen. Still not impressed. So, today I'm watching QI and there's Stephen, talking about some flower, what flower could it be... OH YEAH IT'S A FUCKING PANSY.
So whatever, I'm downloading the band now.

Does this happen to you? Do you see me ranting about Blue October for instance and then you go help your kid with a poem and the poem mentions blue octobers?

I do but that's sort of a common thing so I don't count it into the pressure I've been subjected to :D

Ugh, that happens to me all the time and then the word gets shoved into my vocabulary and for the longest time I'll end up running into/using it every day... and then as quickly as it came its gone again. And usually replaced with a new word.

My word right now is "complex" a simple enough word, but one I never ran into as often as one would think until this last week. It all started with a random fic title my brain tossed out.

*teehee* QI makes me think delicious funny thoughts.

Yes, yes! It's crazy. And it's not even some popular word, like "like" :) It's just some random thing.

haha, on the other hand, if you hang on sf_drama "complex" could have stuck in your brain after the "it's a complex situation!!" bull on ontd_feminism :D

They are lovely. And, since, for reasons I can't even explain, I watched S4, then S3, S2 and am now on S1 Before I go on to S5 :D I only just found out Hugh was in S1! :) Awww :)

Oh goodness. Haha. My fandoms tend to create relatively cracky words to stick - like "Princess."

Mmmm, so very agreed. Damn it, now I need to track QI down again!! Season 6 is absolutely delicious... though so are the others. Hah.

Yup... It's better this afternoon, but I didn't get most of what I wanted to do today done. It's always better in the evening. Low light & caffeine are both my friends. When I get like this I wish I could become nocturnal.

I did it for a while. I was having a LOT of nightmares and I discovered that if I slept during the day when all the annoying little children were outside making sooo much noise, I was basically startled awake every now and then and that way nightmares didn't have time to develop. So I started going to sleep at 8am. It was interesting, but going back to "regular" after a few weeks still felt good.

Of course, I live alone :)

Yay for low light and caffeine then, glad you're better.

This happens to me pretty often! Or, I learn the meaning to a word in a different language from my own, and suddenly people are using it left and right. So odd.

Oh, yeah, happened to me once when I was reading a book in French. Something was "perpendicular" and I had never heard that word before. After I finally managed to translate it from French (and it wasn't easy, without internet) I started hearing it everywhere and in every language *facepalm*
