HUGE CROSSOVER
Feb. 10th, 2011 02:49 pmLast night I dreamt I was in charge of this group of super intelligent kids who always went around and noticed things other people missed or miscalculated or whatever. And I constantly had to talk to people and tell them stuff like "No, really, this five year old managed to calculate what your group of incredibly expensive engineers missed. If you blow it up with that much explosive, we will all die." (Actual situation in my dream.) And then also deal with their personal issues like abandonment (because they were all there without parents and for a long time. I don't know if they were dead or if it was just a boarding school) and physical issues etc. (both also real dream situations.)
So now OF COURSE I want this gigantic fic crossover with these people as 10 or so year olds:

Rodney McKay (SGA)

Temperance Brennan (Bones)

Zack Addy (Bones)

Greg House (House MD)

Sherlock Holmes (of BBC version)
Mycroft Holmes (Sherlock BBC)

Sheldon Cooper (The Big Bang Theory)

Amy Farrah Fowler (The Big Bang Theory)

Brendon Urie (Panic! at the Disco)

Charlie Eppes (Numb3rs)

Severus Snape (He's listed as a genius on TV tropes, your argument is invalid)
I hear Spencer Reid can also fit there, and Jane from Mentalist probably, but, y'know, insert your own favorite genius.
I'm kinda wondering if I should put Moriarty and Dexter here too. Just to make it more creepy.
All of them living together in a boarding school of some sort and being taken care of and taught by:
Patrick Stump (Bandom - music ... playing :P )
Bob Bryar (Bandom - music theory),
Ronon (SGA - PE :D )
Greta (Bandom - piano teacher, that Ronon is secretly crushing on)
Teyla Emmagan (SGA - English - IKR! :D )
Larry Fleinhardt (Numb3rs - some special kind of maths)
Megan Reeves (Numb3rs - behavioral specialist)
Samantha Carter (I never watched SG1 but I'm farely sure she could fit the genius bill, but I really want them to have some awesome women teaching them - physics)
Mrs. Hudson (Sherlock BBC - Food lady)
Anthea (Sherlock BBC - History)
Elisabeth Weir (SGA - um, German and some other languages?).
James Wilson (House MD - Biology and extra as House and Homes' conscience.)
Lisa Cuddy (House MD - Chemistry or Headmistress?)
Others I can't think of right now :)
I'm gonna tell you more now :D This idea is fun, but not necessarily always happy. I don't know why my brain can't just do fluff. There are clearly marked warnings below but general warnings are for missing parents and mentions of mild "drug" abuse (amongst kids, yep. Um, it makes sense in context :D ) and creepy things like dead cats.
Mostly I have no idea how they would be taught, because I think a lot of what they learn is out of regular curriculum so they should either be in a school for gifted or a class for gifted in which case I'm not sure how much sense it would make to bring in all the special teachers. But this is fiction so let's just say they have a special class in a private school and no one minds paying the extra teachers they might need :)
And that way other things could happen. Like bb!Brendon could meet badass kid Spencer and his bff Ryan who writes a lot and their friend Jon who everyone thinks is a bit weird because he tried to walk out in the snow in flip-flops.
And House could meet John Watson who would call him and Zack and Sherlock out on opening up that cat that one time just to see what it's like inside and Sherlock would be fascinated when John finished it off with punching House.
And Charlie's brother Don could constantly hover and make sure nothing happened to Charlie.
And Zack who collects dead birds would meet Hodgins who collects worms and should maybe be in their program too but he played it dumb because he doesn't want the government to know about him, and his friend Angela who likes to paint and makes Zack more nervous than the dead cat did.
Rodney could meet John, who would step in after some older kids tried to kick Rodney's ass. John is not at all bad at maths but all he ever talks about are planes and weird music. Though Rodney kinda starts liking the music after a while.
And all these other people in their lives could get together sometimes and sigh over how complicated/creepy the geniuses are being.
So here's how some of the characters work.
Rodney's archenemy, besides his sister who told everyone his first name is Meredith, is Sheldon. They both think they know everything there is to know about physics and what they don't know is just what they have to discover and name after themselves. They are amazing when they work together, but that happens pretty much never. Mostly they argue and call each other stupid.
Charlie likes to sit on the side and observe them and calculate the probability and potential time of them hitting each other. He's rarely wrong.
Rodney plays the piano. Or, he did, until he saw Brendon play. Then he pretty much gave up because he's not stupid, he knows he'll never be that good. And despite the fact that he likes to insult people a lot, he tires to make friends with Brendon because, well, he just seems to like him. Or something less sappy.
One time when he's out in the yard giving someone 4 years older a lecture on exactly why they are too stupid to breathe, he gets punched. He falls down and can see he's about to get the beating of his life when this other kid steps in and stops it from happening. Then he calls Rodney stupid.
Turns out John Sheppard and Brendon get along pretty well too and now Rodney is stuck between them and Sheldon who he hates and Charlie who is just weird and mutters a lot about probabilities.
Bones feels alone a lot because she never gets to go home so she makes friend with the weird kid Severus who sometimes makes things disappear and also never goes home. She tries to explain physics to him but he can't seem to grasp it. She really likes books, more than the rest of them, and fortunately Severus does too, so he doesn't make her talk too much. When they do talk though, they mostly make fun of how ridiculous other people are.
Her therapist tells her she reads to forget her missing parents and the brother she never sees because he's in a whole other state. Temperance thinks therapists just make stuff up and psychology isn't even a real science. She reads because she likes to study. And besides, it never makes her forget anything anyway.
She sort of takes Zack under her wing for a while, because it can't be good for him to just hang with Sherlock and House all the time, but then he meets Hodgins and Angela and she lets him go.
- - Child abuse warning - -
That's about the time the new kid comes to school and she notices the bruises on his arms. (Canonically, Seely's father was an abusive drunk.) He doesn't want to talk about it, but they do make sort of friends.
- - End child abuse warning - -
So between Seely and Severus she feels a bit less lonely, and at least doesn't miss her brother as much. Seely gives her a whole new perspective on people, that she's not quite sure she agrees on, but Severus doesn't try to poison him, so he must think it's somewhat valid.
Sherlock and House aren't quite friends. More like allies. Zack usually follows them around but sometimes he also follows Bones around so they aren't sure they can trust him. They're still not sure he wasn't the one who told Mrs. Reeves about the cat. And really, the whole cat thing. It's not like they killed it. It was already dead when they found it. The weeks of pointless therapy they went through just to prove there was nothing "wrong" with them. Sherlock had to actually pretend to cry once. He told House to do the same but House was always more stubborn. He got all "yes we found a dead cat and dissected it! The important thing is that we learned something. How is this any different than the frogs you normally give us? Is it because frogs aren't fluffy and cuddly? Hypocrites." Sherlock facepalmed when he heard Zack giggling. It was like they never wanted to leave therapy at all. In the end though, he had to admit therapy had its uses. He learned more about human behavior than any book could have taught him.
Sherlock lets the weird kid, Severus, experiment on him. Sometimes the things he gives him make him really, REALLY happy. Compared to how restless and bored he feels so often, it's amazing. It drives Mycroft crazy though. He calls it gateway drug and tells Sherlock how his pupils are dilated and his hands are shaking and sometime threatens Severus but Severus just smirks and then Mycroft gets sudden and uncontrollable diarrhea.
The first time he meets John, John is yelling at House for the cat thing, talking about humanity and respect and House is being an ass until John just punches him. But, unlike everyone else who sometimes tries to beat their asses, John then reaches down to help House stand up and somehow they both agree House deserved it. Sherlock is fascinated.
Charlie is pretty sure his brother hates him. He knows he's not the easiest person to live with, but some grudges his brother takes too far. It's like these days Charlie can't pick his nose without finding Don there. Not that he would pick his nose. But if he did, he'd find Don. If Charlie is having a debate, there's Don, looking at him from behind a tree. If Charlie is eating lunch, he can feel Don's eyes on him all the way from the cool table. He doesn't know what the hell he did to start it all, but now Don is apparently keeping tabs to make sure Charlie doesn't do something "crazy." Well fuck him. So Charlie starts an argument with someone way older and starts pointing his finger and he sees the guy step forward like he's gonna do something, but then he looks over Charlie's shoulder and backs off. And that's how Charlie learns his brother doesn't really hate him.
His hobbies include lying under trees, trying to calculate which leaf might fall of next, and creeping out Rodney Mckay.
- - Sexual abuse warning - -
Amy transfers to this school after some things she didn't fully understand at the time happened in the last one. Her therapist says it's ok to not understand, but she never says that about any other social behavior Amy doesn't understand so she's pretty sure she's being lied to. Her roommate is a girl called Penny who says she wants to be an actress when she grows up and is very much like every girl who ever made fun of Amy except she doesn't. (My Penny is a bit nicer than canon Penny.) Eventually she tells her what happened in the other school and Penny comes to her and hugs her. First Amy stiffens but after a while it's not so bad, even if she doesn't really get the point. But after that, every time she has a nightmare Penny wakes her up and hugs her and Amy starts to like it.
- - End sexual abuse warning - -
She makes friends with Sheldon the day Severus poisons Sherlock (with his permission) and Sherlock asks them to monitor him and call the nurse only if he completely stops breathing. Amy and Sheldon bond over not bonding and it's pretty nice. Penny seems amused by him, even is she thinks he's weird.
Brendon isn't really sure what he's doing there. He hates maths, doesn't care about physics, and is only vaguely interested in languages. Oh, he's really good at them, Mrs. Weir says so. He's proficient in two already and learning more each day.
But his real love is music, and in the group of geniuses that makes him some kid of outcast. Well, Rodney likes him, but Brendon's not really sure why.
He meets Jon in the principal's office after Jon set his shoes on fire and Brendon has to discuss getting a proper piano teacher. Jon is barefoot, pouting at his feet and swinging them around as he sits on the chair. Brendon is a bit fascinated. Jon catches him staring but doesn't tell him off, so somehow, they start talking. And through him he meets Ryan who likes to use big words and Spencer who wants to learn to drum.
It's not easy, being between the two groups. His genius friends don't trust Jon and Spencer not to just turn on them one day, and his "normal" (Brendon only calls them that in his head) friends don't care about physics any more than he does. He finds himself in this whirlwind of wannabe musicians, people with nicknames and high fives and big dreams. He meets VickyT and Gabe and William and the Way brothers who are acceptable kind of weird and Frankie who draws on himself.
He gets so lost in it all that he forgets to play and doesn't practice and his teachers are worried but he doesn't really care. Not until Rodney pushes him into a wall and pokes his finger in Brendon's face and calls him an idiot and a traitor and waste of talent and he wouldn't even care that Brendon didn't give a shit about him any more if Brendon would just go back to playing the fucking music again. Rodney swears a lot. And Brendon does feel like shit after that. He starts playing again and limits his friend-time, which Spencer, Jon and Ryan are surprisingly understanding about and roll their eyes saying "duh" when he tells them, and he's not really sure what that means; and he takes the cookies his mom sent him to Rodney and John and only keeps three for himself. John winks at him and Rodney huffs but things go better from there.
Severus can do magic. (IDC.) He knows it, and he's pretty sure at least Temperance knows it, but she has a name that's almost as weird as his so he doesn't really mind. He loves chemistry and is trying to find new ways to combine regular medicine with magic. He's doing pretty well, thanks to House and Sherlock who are always willing to let him experiment on them. Sherlock mostly, because he's more willing to accept Severus' explanations and probably also knows about the magic. House is less willing to take "and something else I just added in to see how it works" for an answer.
His parent's sent him as far away as possible, terrified by him, and he pretty much hates them for it. His therapist tries to explain things to him, like how they love him and are doing what they think is best for him, but she doesn't know what he can do so she can't make an objective assessment. He doesn't understand why Temperance misses her parents so much. He tried to tell her that if they wanted to be with her, they would have found a way, but she actually kicked him for that so when they started talking again, a month later, he didn't bring it up.
House sometimes watches Sherlock work people like a fine tuned instrument and is impressed, but just can't spare the energy to fake it. He tried once, and have up half way through. The lady in the store looked a bit shocked. He likes puzzles, answers, things that fit. He used to want people to leave him alone, but has since learned that messing with them is way more amusing. Fortunately, Sherlock gets that. Together, they work on getting Ronon and Mrs. Salpeter together, and then breaking them up. Only, when she realized what they were doing, she didn't start to cry or shout like they expected her to. Instead, she had the principal assign them each a class with her, so they had to pick an instrument to play. Sherlock picked the violin, House chose the piano. He didn't understand why she did that at all, except that with time piano became the thing he went to when he got bored and then he could go places in his head that in real life were too far away. In time or in space. He knew he'd never be as good a player as Mrs. Salpeter's pet, Brendon, but after a while he didn't even mind.
Sheldon's family is so religious they overshadow even Brendon's. Sometimes they have a "well my family doesn't let me" -offs and Sheldon almost always wins. His best friend is Rodney, which would be really sad if he cared about having friends. But what he really cares about it being the first and youngest physicist to do something. Anything. Amy understands. Not just his drive to succeed but him in general. And he's pretty sure he understands her. Which is rare enough to be remarkable. He realizes all his teachers are less intelligent than he is, but as long as they let him correct them, and don't question him, he knows it's a burden he just has to shoulder until he's old enough to command respect. His mother always said everyone had their own cross to bear. He doesn't mind waiting, he knows it's hard for people of average intelligence to differentiate between a regular kid, a smart kid, and a genius.
His hobbies include reading comics and, eventually, beating the Way brothers in DnD.
Zack is as curious about people as he is about science. He wants to understand socialization and making friends and what makes people love or hate as much as he wants to understand how brain works and how a heart beats. Yet, all his friendships are superficial at best, maybe because he tries to make too many friends at once and then forgets about them all for a while to go and look at where the car is buried now and wonder why people were shocked by what they did.
He meets Hodgins there, who tells him he's been following some beetles who, Zack is pretty sure, were feeding on the cat. They talk, and Hodgins does his best to explain why the cat thing was creepy and Zack does his best to understand. Later that day they meet again by accident and Hodgins is with Angela who draws Zack a picture of himself in a few minutes and he's amazed. He finds out later that Hodgins is afraid the government is after him, and even though he's as brilliant as anyone in Zack's class, he doesn't want to be on anyone's list of potential bomb builders. Angela seems to be some kind of computer whiz, but since she likes to draw and talk about traveling and meeting people, she's just not catching anyone's eye. Zack isn't sure if that's a good or a bad thing. He can't really imagine her sitting in a closed room for hours, trying to learn something. Seems like everything she comes up with is a result of something exciting happening in her life.
And so they become friends :)
Mycroft Holmes has two jobs. To look after his kid brother, and to take over the world. One is going better than the other, but then, politics are much more logical than his brother could ever be.
I totally need some kind of plot here, don't I? But I'd rather just tell their stories individually and not have a particular "quest" or whatever they had to go through.
Reasons I'll never write this? It's huge. I don't know genius-speek. I know very little about kids.
