Mar. 9th, 2011 05:23 amCan you rec me some interesting lyrical concept albums?
I listen to most genres of music but I'm not a fan of chillout or rap.
I found a list online - there is a list of everything online - but I don't even know where to start, there's too many, and they're not all lyrically conceptual :) Also I prefer personal recommendations.
(Oh, and I'm looking for something post-Ziggy Stardust :) More recent.)
Here's some newer ones I know about:
David Gray - White Ladder
The Streets - A Grand Don't Come for Free
My Chemical Romance - Black Parade and Danger Days
Forgive Durden - Razia's Shadow
Blue October - Consent to Treatment
Evelyn Evelyn - Evelyn Evelyn
White Lies - To Lose My Life
This was totally supposed to go to TQC, but whatever, I can leave it here too :)

Date: 2011-03-09 04:33 am (UTC)I'll have to think about it. I have a lot of 90's music, but nothing comes to mind.

Date: 2011-03-09 05:04 am (UTC)The Decemberists - "The Hazards of Love" recent album was supposed to be a staged musical.
Tori Amos - "Strange Little Girls"
And Jethro Tull "Thick as a Brick". It's 1972 so it's probably pre-Bowie. But it's an album I listened to over & over again when I was 16. It doesn't even have "tracks".

Date: 2011-03-09 11:10 pm (UTC)Turisas:"The Varangian Way". It's about vikings on a trip to Constantinople, and how on the way they almost all loose their minds and get attacked by Slavs, but get their asses saved by the Rus. Good stuff.
Amorphis: "Skyforger"
It's not exactly a TRUE concept album, but most of the songs are about the the things that Illmarinin (rather important fellow from Finnish myth) did in his lifetime. Most of their albums are like this, I recommend them very much.
I also recommend anything by Moonsorrow, especially their last two albums: "V.Havietty" and "Varjoina Kuljemme Kuoleman Maassa". Especially that last one because it's expressly about life after the end of the world. Pretty gloomy but also rather beautiful.
I'm gonna assume you already are familiar with Tyr's "Ragnarok", hah.
