maskitheclownI, um... don't like The Beatles? *cringe*
I understand that musically they are like... the best thing since guitar strings, but if I actually sit down and try to listen to them I get bored in a matter of minutes. And their voices... kinda irritate me. (Well, one doesn't but I can't pinpoint which one.)
There are songs like "With a Little Help from My Friends" which are really catchy and everyone hears at least once a year somewhere, somehow, and I can wiggle my foot to it with the best of them... But then "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" starts and I space out again (no pun intended).
While this is all, obviously, incredibly subjective, what I have the most problems with are their lyrics. "All you need is love"?? Really? REALLY?? I'm not even... gh. Whatever.
(I do dig 'Nowhere Man' lyrics though)
And I'm not standing here saying Ryan Ross writes better than The Beatles did, 'cause I wouldn't even know what parameters to use to reach such a conclusion. But, be it the words themselves or how they flow, it's more enjoyable for me to listen to his lyrics than theirs.
I'm not arguing their genius, I just don't feel it.
And... while I'm making enemies :) I might as well mention I also don't listen to Fall Out Boy, The Academy Is..., My Chemical Romance (though I love some of their songs), Dresden Dolls (seriously fucking NO), The Hush Sound... um... did I forget anyone? :)
I listen to Blue October (USA), Brand New (Not exactly 'guilty' but definitelly 'shallow pleasure' till their last album which was probably the best thing to happen to the year 2006. [and their drummer needs an award for hijacking The Archers Bows Have Broken, it hurts me to watch him play live].) and The Smiths (Morrissey solo too). Oh! And Barenaked Ladies. 'Cause they are too awesome for this world :D
