Aug. 29th, 2009 03:47 pmSo. There one was this band, that sadly is no more, but while they were, they sounded pretty good. They were called "And his Voice Became" and they had a few EPs that all together could make an album now.
"And His Voice Became are just two people making music, Mark & Paul. Mark plays acoustic geetar and sings and Paul plays drums." If you wanna know more about the logistics here is their myspace, still alive and well, and I pasted a copy of the review I agree with the most because I suck at proper reviews :) This is why I only ever LISTEN to music :)

"And His Voice Became are back with EP3, and they're thankfully keeping things simple still which only serves to enhance the purity of their sound. The previous comparisons to the likes of Jose Gonzalez, Magnet, Damien Rice and Jeff Buckley still hold firm but their songwriting has now moved on a notch or two."
I have to say their lyrics never wow-ed me much, but, y'know, I'm a fan of Justin Furstenfeld and Ryan Ross so I'm spoiled. These lyrics are more to the point and sparse. What I really like is how the music builds up and how strong the drums are. (As I will mention a few more times.)
Songs are in no particular order:
Code Listen. Download.
I heard this song many, many moons ago, and I downloaded it (it was for free, shuttup) and kept listening to it over and over again before I realized they could have some other songs I might like. It remains my favorite song by them.
She Kept Walking ~~ EP1 Listen.
My... second favorite probably :) It's the song where the singer's voice breaks the most, but the drummer kicks ass and the guitar complements it just so.
Take your Time ~~ EP1 Listen.
I actually do like the lyrics on this one. And the heartbeat drum. It's a bit too mellow for me though, but the beat is pretty awesome.
My Love ~~ EP1 Listen.
Oh, this is a moody song, you gotta love it.
My Last Day ~~ Podcast 001 - My Last Day Download to listen.
I actually downloaded it and then cut the talk off, sorry guys. But oh! Another of my favorites. Though it starts way more mellow than I would normally like, the drums, again (someone give this man a job ffs) lift it to a whole other level and then the singer matches it and with the mindfuck in the background, it becomes a whole other song. Did I mention they do awesome buildup?
Pleasant Truth ~~ demos April // EP3 Listen and download. Buy.
I'm forever unsure about this song but I always end up loving it half way through. The singer's voice is strong in this one.
Lost ~~ demos April Listen and download.
I have a thing for when the voice adds to the rhythm, doesn't just follow the music, and they do it in this song so, yeah. *keeps*
Tell me Why ~~ Confusion Single Listen.
Yeah! So much love for this one. It starts with a whisper and then it... well, builds up. Even the lyrics are really good:
you resist, you resist your place, you scream out
tell me why it is we don't fit, we go against the tide, we'd rather sink
And the drummer. Fuck. I'd fangirl him if they were still active.
Confusion ~~ Confusion Single Listen.
Agitated song. I like the concept probably more than the song itself :)
Don't Cut Deep ~~ EP2 Listen.
They experiment with the vocals in this one some more and he pulls it off, and the guitar tapping is a good support, they don't overdo anything and the lyrics are pretty good too. The rhythm is the best though - incredibly, makes you wanna dance.
Anywhere But Here ~~ EP2 Listen.
Drums and voice go low and guitar goes high. It's a good song but way too soft for my taste.
You and I song ~~ EP2 Listen.
Good things happening with the guitar there, mostly. His voice is incredibly clear and the lyrics are cute, in that... love song way :) It's the man and his guitar song, but with a little bit extra and it makes it perfect.
Devil's Hand ~~ EP3 Listen. Buy.
The only reason this song isn't my top 3 is that I really am a lyrics freak and his voice is so soft here it makes me strain to hear it, which I don't like. But technically there's no doubt it went up in quality. The voice and the music :) And the lyrics are BETTER and the drummer omg did I not mention him for like ... 2 songs now? Shame on me. But yeah, just, sing louder dammit. *frown* :)
Let the Boy Go ~~ EP3 Listen. Buy.
See, like this. After the intro his voice becomes clear and it's a proper song and I love it.
I really can't help you be a good citizen and buy EP1 and EP2 cause I have no idea where they might be... but EP3 has links here, and Confusion single can be bought at this store.
AHVB fell apart some time in 2007 and the drummer, Paul, went to ... I guess join War Makes Heroes (UK) which published an EP - Somebody Somewhere, that was honestly pretty awesome, as far as 2 songs go... One of them even had Nick McCabe of The Verve featuring on guitar. But the songs are now nowhere to be found for a proper listen (you can hear them here though with least "no download" interruptions) and last I've seen the band active online was in late '08, so, no idea what's going on with that.
I don't know what happened to the singer at all.
So, yeah. I wish it was an album that I could buy or at the very least illegally download without feeling guilty 'cause they really should have (had) more fans.
